Changes to the Pesticide & Fertilizer Jug Recycling Program

Spring 2024 marks the final phase of the three-year transition to collect ag chem jugs at retail. Most municipal jug depots will be phased out by Spring 2025 and growers will turn to their local ag retailer (or the point of purchase) to recycle their empty jugs.

As of January 2024:

• 130+ low and medium volume municipal jug depots have phased out collections
• 190+ of Alberta’s ag retailers are accepting jugs for recycling (67% of ag retailers)
• 90+ large volume municipal depots are accepting jugs until Jan 1 2025 and 16 sites are remaining open indefinitely
• Large farms are now receiving free on-site pickup if there are 25 bags or more on farm. Please contact Cleanfarms to get set up.
